Huchen, also known as the Danube salmon, is a highly sought after game fish that can be found in the rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With its distinctive appearance and reputation as a challenging catch, Huchen has become a popular target for anglers from around the world.

The Huchen is a species of salmonid fish that can grow up to two meters in length and weigh up to 60 kg. It has a slender body with a dark green, almost black back and silver sides. Its head is large and its jaws are equipped with sharp teeth, which it uses to catch its prey.

The Huchen is native to the Danube River basin, which includes Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is typically found in clear, fast-flowing rivers and streams with rocky bottoms, and is known for its ability to navigate rapids and other obstacles in search of food.

Huchen populations have been declining in recent years due to overfishing and habitat loss. As a result, many conservation efforts have been put in place to protect the species and its habitats. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Huchen fishing is strictly regulated, and a permit is required to fish for this species. The fishing season typically runs from October to March, with the peak season occurring in December and January.

There are several rivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina where Huchen can be found, including the Una, Sana, Vrbas and Drina rivers. Some of the capitals fished in a recent years: some specimens caught weighed over 20 kg, and their length was up to 1.5 meters on river Sana by Admir Redžić, 23 kg and 120 cm long by Braco Žutić on river Vrbas, Amer Hadžimešić on river Drina etc. But the real capital was the one caught in 1938. by Halil Sofradžija, that weighted 58 kg.
